Why Is It So Hard To Lose Belly Fat?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Everyone wants a flat and tight stomach.  Right?  But, it is one of the most difficult things to do, especially in this country with all the processed foods, fast-food joints, and convenient food items.  And let’s be honest, belly fat is not attractive in the least, unless you are a chubby chaser.

Being an Orange County personal trainer, the most sought after goal, is a flat and tight stomach.  And for men, that is more difficult, since the stomach area is the first place fat comes on and the last place fat comes off.  Also, there are tons of foods that contribute to belly fat.

First, you just can’t spot reduce fat.  You have to reduce your overall body fat percentage.  If you keep getting leaner, eventually all the fat on your stomach will dissappear.   Unfortunately, most people do not stick on any type of fat-loss program long enough, or the right one to see any dramatric results.

Personal Training in Orange County, my team and I have helped hundreds of people drop fat and get amazingly tight and lean bodies.  And it is pretty simpe.  The secret is consistency and having set goals.  We do that for our clients.  Just check out the before and after below.

How Often Should You Train Abs?

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Today, I walked into my gym and I saw this guy working his abdominal muscles.  The funny thing was that I saw him working his abs the last four days as well.  I don’t know what he is thinking, but he is not going to be able to get a flat, six pack stomach by doing abdominal exercises every day.  By the way, this guy has a fat belly.

This is a common problem I see all the time.  People working their abs everyday in hopes of getting a six pack stomach.  Well, that does not work.

First, you can’t spot reduce fat.  So, it does not matter how many crunches or situps you do.  You won’t get a flat stomach that way.

Second, you stomach muscles need some rest as well as your other muscle groups.  You should not work your abdominal muscles more than 2 to 3 times per week.  Anymore than that, it just a complete waste of your time.

Getting a flat stomach is best acheived by doing whole body workouts combined with proper, clean nutrition.  As you decrease overall body fat, you will eventually decrease enough of your belly fat to a point where you will get a flat and toned stomach.

Train smart and eat even smarter.

How To Flatten Your Belly Without Losing Weight

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009
“There is one trick, however, that can give the appearance of a flatter stomach, regardless of how much stomach fat you possess. Beneath the rectus abdominis lies a band of muscle called the transversus abdominis.”  It is this specific muscle that we have to put to work whenever we can, because it will improve our posture and, consequently, make our stomach look much flatter than it really is.

“First, suck in your gut, so your belly button is drawn towards your spine. While your stomach is sucked in, do not hold your breath, just keep breathing normally. You’ll know you’re doing this correctly when you begin to feel a minor burning sensation in the deep stomach.”

“FromSince we’re on the topic of making our stomach look flatter and better, thanks to the above trick, we might as well mention that crunches or sit-ups (and many abdominal exercises) that they’re doing more damage than good when it comes to getting rid of stomach fat.

For once sit-ups strengthen muscles but they can’t eliminate fat, or at least, not if there’s an excess of it there. “The fact is, performing sit-ups or ‘crunches’ strengthens and firms up the recturs abdominis muscle, more commonly known as the ‘six-pack’. This may well give your stomach muscles the strength to bounce bullets but will do nothing to reduce the amount of fat on your tummy.” The only way to crush belly fat is through a healthy diet and intelligent exercise.

The Secret to Six Pack Abs

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Every guy I know wants six pack abs.  And women, of course they want a flat and tone stomach.  But, most people are going about all wrong.  First, it does not matter how many crunches or leg raises you do.  You simply can’t spot reduce fat.  In order for you to get six pack abs and a flat stomach, you need to decrease your overall body fat levels low enough so you can see six pack abs.

The best method is combination of whole-body workouts with weights and intelligent nutrition.  The whole body workouts will do a couple of things for you.  One, they will help you build more muscle, which in turn will increase your metabolism.  Second, the whole-body workouts will burn many more calories and leave your metabolism jamming for 24 to 48 hours afterwards.  Imagine how much fat you will burn in that time.  And three, these whole-body workouts will stimulate your own growth hormone, which is your fat burning hormone.

Next is diet.  This is a place where most falter.  People have no clue how to effectively eat to lose body fat.  First, take all the processed foods at of your diet.  What are processed foods?  Anything that has been chemically altered.  Such as anything in a box.  Second, avoid sugar and flour.  These two products will stimulate your fat-storage hormone, insulin.  You don’t want that.  Third, make sure you are eating 5 to 6 small healthy meals per day in order to stimulate your metolism.

There you go.  Follow these guidelines and I will see some lean and ripped people walking around.  Until next time, take care and keep burning the fat.
