Why Is It So Hard To Lose Belly Fat?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Everyone wants a flat and tight stomach.  Right?  But, it is one of the most difficult things to do, especially in this country with all the processed foods, fast-food joints, and convenient food items.  And let’s be honest, belly fat is not attractive in the least, unless you are a chubby chaser.

Being an Orange County personal trainer, the most sought after goal, is a flat and tight stomach.  And for men, that is more difficult, since the stomach area is the first place fat comes on and the last place fat comes off.  Also, there are tons of foods that contribute to belly fat.

First, you just can’t spot reduce fat.  You have to reduce your overall body fat percentage.  If you keep getting leaner, eventually all the fat on your stomach will dissappear.   Unfortunately, most people do not stick on any type of fat-loss program long enough, or the right one to see any dramatric results.

Personal Training in Orange County, my team and I have helped hundreds of people drop fat and get amazingly tight and lean bodies.  And it is pretty simpe.  The secret is consistency and having set goals.  We do that for our clients.  Just check out the before and after below.

How Often Should You Train Abs?

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Today, I walked into my gym and I saw this guy working his abdominal muscles.  The funny thing was that I saw him working his abs the last four days as well.  I don’t know what he is thinking, but he is not going to be able to get a flat, six pack stomach by doing abdominal exercises every day.  By the way, this guy has a fat belly.

This is a common problem I see all the time.  People working their abs everyday in hopes of getting a six pack stomach.  Well, that does not work.

First, you can’t spot reduce fat.  So, it does not matter how many crunches or situps you do.  You won’t get a flat stomach that way.

Second, you stomach muscles need some rest as well as your other muscle groups.  You should not work your abdominal muscles more than 2 to 3 times per week.  Anymore than that, it just a complete waste of your time.

Getting a flat stomach is best acheived by doing whole body workouts combined with proper, clean nutrition.  As you decrease overall body fat, you will eventually decrease enough of your belly fat to a point where you will get a flat and toned stomach.

Train smart and eat even smarter.

How To Flatten Your Belly Without Losing Weight

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009
“There is one trick, however, that can give the appearance of a flatter stomach, regardless of how much stomach fat you possess. Beneath the rectus abdominis lies a band of muscle called the transversus abdominis.”  It is this specific muscle that we have to put to work whenever we can, because it will improve our posture and, consequently, make our stomach look much flatter than it really is.

“First, suck in your gut, so your belly button is drawn towards your spine. While your stomach is sucked in, do not hold your breath, just keep breathing normally. You’ll know you’re doing this correctly when you begin to feel a minor burning sensation in the deep stomach.”

“FromSince we’re on the topic of making our stomach look flatter and better, thanks to the above trick, we might as well mention that crunches or sit-ups (and many abdominal exercises) that they’re doing more damage than good when it comes to getting rid of stomach fat.

For once sit-ups strengthen muscles but they can’t eliminate fat, or at least, not if there’s an excess of it there. “The fact is, performing sit-ups or ‘crunches’ strengthens and firms up the recturs abdominis muscle, more commonly known as the ‘six-pack’. This may well give your stomach muscles the strength to bounce bullets but will do nothing to reduce the amount of fat on your tummy.” The only way to crush belly fat is through a healthy diet and intelligent exercise.

Everyone one wants a great set of abs.  Women want that flat, tone and tight stomach.  While men, want a great set of ripped, hard abs.  Let’s face it, this is easier said than done.  Most people go about this all wrong.

No amount of ab exercises, fat-loss pills, and slow-paced cardio will ever get you that six pack stomach.  So, if tons of cardio, fat-loss pills, and endless crunches won’t get you a flat stomach, what will?

Simply put, good nutrition.  This is most people’s weak area.  If you want to really get a tight and tone stomach then you need to clean up your diet and start eating effectively.  If you are totally lost and have no clue, I would definately recommend seeing a great sports nutritionist.  This can make all the difference in the world and it works.

The Truth About Fats

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Most people think that they have to eat a low-fat or no fat diet in order to lose fat and get into shape.  Not true.  There are bad fats and there are good fats.  Your body needs fats to maintain health and many bodily functions.

There are fats that help you lower your cholesterol levels.  These are unsaturated fats, such as avocados, nuts, flaxseed, olive oil, salmon fat, and many more.  These are great examples of healthy fats that you should include in your diet.

The bad fats are the saturated fats that come from animal sources, such as the fats found in meats, egg yolks, butter and many more.  Try to minimize your saturated fats as much as possible and your body will thank you for it.

Stay away from fast-food

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I think the title pretty much says it all.  For those of you who eat fast-food on a regular basis, are probably struggling with body fat and getting leaner.  Fast-food is totally unhealthy for you.  Besides the sheer quanity of the food, the chemicals and food source are terrible for you.

Most fast-food restaurants have high caloric meals with high fat content, and usually saturated fat.  This is the fat that clogs up your artieries and helps you get that heart attack.  Second, most fast-food is also high in low quality carbohyrdates, like breads, dough, flour, sugar, etc.  These poor choices of foods only spike your fat storage hormone, thus making it easy for you to gain fat.

Also, there is a lot of harmful chemicals and additives in fast-food, from msg to high fructose corn syrup.  This also makes it easier for you to gain far.

If you are going to eat fast food, here are two decent choices:

Subway:  get a 6 inch turkey breast on wheat, no cheese, no fats, double meat and vegetables.

El Pollo Loco: get skinless chicken breast, corn tortillas and the vegetables.

Its best if you try to avoid fast food and make your own wholesome, healthy food.  Trust me, your body will benefit from it big time.

Be well and get fit.

Fat-Loss Beach Workout

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Every now and then we need to change things up to break up the monotony of workout out.  For most people the fitness goal is to burn body fat and be lean.  Well, we all get tired of going to the gym, sitting on a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill.

Well, here is a kick butt beach workout that will have you crushing your body fat fast.  First, go to your favorite beach.  The workout consists of a combination of interval training and body exercises.  First, you will run 50 yard sprints in the sand.  At the end of the 1st sprint, you will perform as many pushups as you can.  Then, you will walk back to your orignal starting position, then repeat the sprint.  Once finished, you will perform body squats to the maximum.  Once finished, you will walk back to the orignal starting position, then sprint again.  Once finished, you will do as many leg raises as you can.  Walk back to the original position and repeat the entire process as much as you want.  If you can do this for 30 minutes straight, you will kick some serious fat off your ass.

Good luck and keep burning the fat.

The Secret to Six Pack Abs

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Every guy I know wants six pack abs.  And women, of course they want a flat and tone stomach.  But, most people are going about all wrong.  First, it does not matter how many crunches or leg raises you do.  You simply can’t spot reduce fat.  In order for you to get six pack abs and a flat stomach, you need to decrease your overall body fat levels low enough so you can see six pack abs.

The best method is combination of whole-body workouts with weights and intelligent nutrition.  The whole body workouts will do a couple of things for you.  One, they will help you build more muscle, which in turn will increase your metabolism.  Second, the whole-body workouts will burn many more calories and leave your metabolism jamming for 24 to 48 hours afterwards.  Imagine how much fat you will burn in that time.  And three, these whole-body workouts will stimulate your own growth hormone, which is your fat burning hormone.

Next is diet.  This is a place where most falter.  People have no clue how to effectively eat to lose body fat.  First, take all the processed foods at of your diet.  What are processed foods?  Anything that has been chemically altered.  Such as anything in a box.  Second, avoid sugar and flour.  These two products will stimulate your fat-storage hormone, insulin.  You don’t want that.  Third, make sure you are eating 5 to 6 small healthy meals per day in order to stimulate your metolism.

There you go.  Follow these guidelines and I will see some lean and ripped people walking around.  Until next time, take care and keep burning the fat.

The Day After Thanksgiving Fat Blast

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is day of family, friends, and great old fashioned cooking.  A time to come together and to remember how thankful we should be for the blessings we have as we unbutton our pants and dive into a world of delicious foods.

Hey, I am not going to tell you that you should watch your diet on Thanksgiving.  No way.  I say have a great time and endulge yourself.  But, I am here to give you a great tip to burn off those excess calories the day after Thanksgiving.

First, take all your complex carbohyrdates out of your diet the day after, such as potatoes, bread, yams, rice, you know, the good stuff.  This will force your body to turn to its body fat as fuel, thus helping you become leaner.

Second, you should eat a combination of lean proteins (egg whites, chicken breasts, turkey, lean meat, fish) with fibrous carbohydrates (broccoli, aspargus, green beans, spinach, etc.).  The protein will stimulate your fat-burning hormone.

And third, yoiu need to do a whole body weight resistance workout with some interval training at the end.  This will boost your metabolism big time.

Well, there you go.  Have a great time and keep burning the fat.

Lose Belly Fat Diet

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Everyone asks me what is the perfect diet to lose belly fat.  I get this question all the time.  It’s the big mystery for most people.  But, if you can find the right formula that belly fat will drop faster than ever.   When it comes to crushing belly fat and getting six pack abs, most people do all the wrong things.

First, let me put an end to some myths.  One, you can not spot reduce fat on your stomach.  You have to lose body fat uniformly throughout your entire body.  Second, ab exercises alone are not going to give you that flat stomach you so crave.  And third, no amount of supplements are going to help you lose belly fat.

Here is the reality for most people.  Most people just do not eat correctly to become lean enough to get that ripped stomach.  Thats as simple as I can put it.  Besides exercising, you will have to really fine tune your diet to get lean enough to see some abs or have a flat stomach.

Here are things you need to cut out:

-Caloric beverages, such as sodas, juices, alcohol, starbucks drinks, etc.

-Packaged meals, such as lean cuisine and Healthy Choice.  Trust me, these are not healthy.

-Saturated fats (Keep this to a minimum), such as red meat.

-Sugars and high fructorse corn syrup, which is found in most processed foods.

-Avoid processed foods.

Here are some foods that will be great to crush fat all over your body:

-lean protein such as egg whites, chicken breast, fish, turkey, whey protein, and lean meats.

-healthy complex carbs, such as oatmeal, potatoes, yams, brown rice, etc.

-fibrous vegetables, such as broccoli, asparagus, green beans.

-Some fruits.

Start including some of these foods into your daily nutrition, combined with a good exercise program, and your belly fat will dissappear in no time.
